Harry Potter: the story continues. Revealed in a Youtube video announcement on Thursday, JK Rowling has written extensive new material which will be made into an interactive experience for Potter fans online. Although Pottermore isn't the eighth volume of the Harry Potter saga, it will provide you with the next chapter in the series.
Developed in association with Sony and TH_NK, a digital agency, Pottermore will offer new background material about the characters, places and objects so familiar to JK Rowling's loyal fanbase. Says Rowling: “I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years. Pottermore is a way for the creativity to live on and a way for me to be creative on a platform that did not exist when I started writing the books."

Add your own flair to the saga
According to the announcement video, Rowling promises that Pottermore will be a new, safe way to read the books that will take input from the fans and expand the universe in "an online reading experience unlike anything other." From Thursday, readers can register for the online challenge and those selected will gain early access to the site on July 31, Harry Potter's birthday. The exciting new project will allow readers to shape their own experience by answering questions, being sorted into their own house at Hogwarts and picking up new information and facts along the way. Fans can also play games, add comments and drawings, mix potions and interact with other characters as they move through each story. Their profiles grow as they progress.
Harry Potter for the digital generation
The biggest news about Pottermore is that the "Harry Potter" books will finally be available in e-book form. Rowling has made the decision to cut out the middle man, and is guaranteed to reap the profits of the digital book sales as faithful fans and new readers purchase these much more portable versions of the books so they don't have to lug around a 700-page hardcover book.
J.K. Rowling is still involved
Pottermore will include new details and side stories about the "Harry Potter series" from the author herself. Says Rowling: "I knew that in 1998 I was generating more material than would ever appear in the books…There was no other way to do it than to do it myself.”
