Love may be a mystery, but dating? Dating is a science.

Usually the equation would be amount of money spend is equaled to how much you score. However, there are several activities that allow you to spend less with the same result.

Here are 6 dating ideas that will help both you and your wallet.

1. Wine Tasting

Most wine shops will usually organize monthly wine tastings to feature their wine. These events are usually free or go for a very small price.

Go and learn about the different wines, their pairings and most importantly, which are her favourites. That information will come in useful in the future for gifts or during dinner dates. Girls love it when you remember little details about them.

Wine tasting events also give the impression that you are a classy and cultured person. Her opinion of you will change for the better.

2. Hit a Flea Market

Flea markets are a great place to pick up a good deal and an interesting way to spend the afternoon. You and your girl will have a lot of fun going through the kooky things that end up on sale. If something inexpensive happens to catch her eye, you could even pick it up for her with little hurt to your wallet.

If the thing she likes does happen to be on the pricey side, you can always haggle for a better deal. But make sure she doesn’t see this – You wouldn’t want her to think that you’re cheap.

3. The Sunset Hike

Give your dating life an adventurous twist by suggesting a hike to see the sunset. It is exciting, romantic and, best of all, free. Try to keep the hike under 45 minutes. That way, you will both won’t get too tired or cranky. Also, make sure the route is familiar to you.

If not, opt for an easier route. You wouldn’t want to be caught in a 127 hours-type scenario.

4. The Bicycle Picnic

While every other guy is having a cheap and romantic picnic date, you can do them one better.

Mixing in a leisurely long bike ride brings in an element of fun to the usual picnic dates. Both of you can enjoy the beautiful scenery together as the wind whips through your hair. The relaxing activity will put both of you in a good mood for the picnic afterwards.

5. Farmer’s Market in the Morning, Making Dinner Together in the Evening

There’s nothing more romantic than shopping for ingredients together then making a meal of it afterwards. If you are not a culinary wizard, it would be best to do some planning before hand.

Before you set off, have a recipe in mind and a list of the things you’ll need to buy. Check your stock at home to make sure that you don’t miss anything. This will save you from having to run out to buy more groceries later on.

Have fun at the farmer’s market. Try the produce together and trade speculations about the quality of the chicken. It will make for some good laughs and great memories.

6. Game Night

Now, now, we’re not suggesting a Call of Duty tournament. Put away your PS3 and enjoy an old-fashioned game night. Pull out those classic board or card games, like Monopoly or Taboo, for a terrific evening in. Stay away from mentally competitive or slow games like chess and scrabble.

Both of you can even put down friendly couples wagers on the outcomes of your games. Maybe the loser can buy the winner dinner? Or maybe a treat to the movies? Perhaps a back rub?

The possibilities are endless.
